A credit card is not money; it is a chainsaw. In the hands of a professional, it builds a house. In the hands of an amateur, it causes an injury.
At Ronald Raymond Consulting, we teach our clients that there are only two ways to use a credit card. You must choose your identity:
IDENTITY A: THE STRATEGIST The Strategist uses the bank’s money to protect their own cash.
- The Method: You swipe for budgeted items and pay the balance to $0.00 every single month.
- The Benefit: You float the bank’s money for 30 days while your cash sits in your account earning interest.
- The Reward: You extract value through points, cash back, and fraud protection without paying a single cent in interest.
IDENTITY B: THE CONSUMER The Consumer uses the bank’s money to buy a lifestyle they cannot afford.
- The Method: You swipe for things you “want,” worry about paying for them later, and carry a balance.
- The Cost: You pay 20%+ in interest, meaning a $100 dinner ends up costing $300 over time.
- The Damage: Your credit utilization spikes, your score tanks, and your Legacy is drained by interest payments.
THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT If you want to operate as a Strategist and use credit to build a 750+ score, these rules are non-negotiable:
- The Cash Mirror: Never swipe the card unless the cash is already sitting in your checking account. The card is a mirror of your cash, not an extension of your income.
- The Auto-Pay Firewall: Set your credit card to “Auto-Pay: Full Statement Balance” on the due date so you never pay a penny of interest.
- The 30% Ceiling (The 10% Target): Never let your reported balance cross 30% of your total limit—crossing this line actively damages your score. If you want to reach elite prime borrower status, keep it strictly under 10%.
If you are currently carrying a balance, you are in the Consumer trap. Stop using the cards immediately.
Break the Habit. Break the Cycle. Build the Legacy.
